Employee Spotlight: Muthu Jayaraman, Software Engineer
Meet Muthu — who is a part of the site ingestion team at Indix. Muthu is a part of the key engineering team at Indix and has been a stellar contributor at work. We love having him on the team, and sat down to learn more about him and his work.
What project are you working on currently? What excites you the most about it?
I work in the site-ingestion team. I am so excited solving some of the toughest and interesting problems while ingesting a site, bouncing off my ideas with the team and thereby enriching my learning of the domain.
What is the most rewarding part of being on your team?
Being part of the site ingestion team, I get to learn a whole lot of new technologies. I also get to help others with what I have learnt. Given the nature of my work, I get to work with other engineering teams thereby getting to learn a lot from diverse perspectives.
What drives you to come to work in the morning?
The challenges I face at work everyday and the interesting problems I get to solve on a regular basis are the two key factors that drive me to work. Given the sheer scale of the problems we try to solve and its complexity, one has to always stay on the top and keep abreast with new technology that can be applied to solve a problem.
What’s the most exciting and challenging part of working for a startup?
Self-learning is the most exciting part. Needless to say, the learning has to be continuous. I get to constantly try out new things at work and I’m allowed to fail fast while figuring out a solution. The joy of solving a problem however big it may look is priceless.
What inspires you about the vision and mission of Indix?
The vision to be the world’s largest product database has been very inspirational. Indix’s mission to create a Google map of products has lead me to be more focused on each and every attribute of the product while ingesting a site.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I work on ingesting an e-commerce site into our system and I maintain a bunch of the customer-specific sites. I get to assist the team to solve any problem, which they may face in production. I always keep an eye on data quality of customer sites. My role is cross-functional and I get to work with other teams like customer success and own some customer specific tasks.
How do you balance your work and personal life? What do you do for fun?
I love playing games like chess, sudoku on my phone during my pastime. I’m a fitness freak and love spending time at the gym. Being an outdoor person, I cherish the time I get to play cricket. Recently, I tried my hand at cooking and I must say, I find it interesting.
